NEWS POST
Copyright (C) 1994 Douglas Baxter
Description :
This small utility is designed primarily for PCB systems. It is an easy
to use News Bulletin generator featuring SysOp definable colors, Date &
Time stamps on articles, Article Titles, and a host of PCB Macros to
format the screen and color the Output. Filename and path for the news
bulletin are defined by the SysOp allowing easy tayloring for each BBS.
License :
NEWS POST is SHAREWARE. It is fully functional and NOT crippled. Until
the program is registered a single Unreg'd message will be appended to
the bottom of each article. This will be removed when the software is
purchased! You are given 30 days to evaluate/test this product on your
system. If you decide to register please refer to the REGISTER.TXT
file. The fee is only $5.00. If you do not want to register the
utility then it must be deleted after the evaluation period.
Disclaimer :
NEWS POST has been tested on SOLITUDE BBS prior to release. However,
there is no warranty with this package. Use it at your own risk as
with all shareware products. The author cannot be held accountable
for damages (software/hardware).
Set-up :
Please follow the step-by-step instructions.
1 - Copy ALL the files into the DIRectory you wish them to reside in.
2 - Change to that DIRectory and run SETUP.EXE. This program will
create three configuration files (POST.CLR/CNF/KEY).
3 - It is important to note that the POST text files can readily be
altered by a standard ASCII text editor! Remember to use UPPER CASE
on color codes. Since this is your first installation select
option #3 in the SETUP program. This will run the entire cycle.
When you return to the OPTION Screen you are done and may
exit!
4 - See REGISTER.TXT for info on getting a key.
5 - The bulletin will be created under the name you entered in the
SETUP program in the path you also specified. You must tell
your PCBoard where to find this Bulletin. Use the PCBSETUP and
enter the name and location for the news file.
6 - Run POST to generate news!
POST Operating Instructions
POST is very simple to use. For your first attempt it is suggested you
enter option #2 (Delete & Start Again). However, this option WILL erase
any news file under the name and path you assigned to this program. You
would use this option to erase old news or correct mistakes by killing
the News file.
Option #1 appends new information to existing news files! This is the
feature you will likely use most.
Option #2 Kills old news and allows entering of fresh bulletins!
Option #3 Displays the MAIN Body of the article.
Option #4 Saves the Exits the program.
Where to find configuration Options:
Sometimes it may be necessary to change options in you configuration.
This happens for a variety of reasons but mostly due to a change in the
name of your BBS or output path/filename. You DO NOT have to change all
the items each time! Editing the POST.CNF/CLR/KEY files is an easy way
of altering your configuration. However, it's important to keep the
correct format! I suggest running the SETUP program. There are two
options for changes.
Select #1
- This option allows you to change the general configuration files
without altering the color configurations. Information for BBS
name, output path/name, SysOp name, & Registration # are located
here. You will need to alter the Registration number if you
register this product.
NOTE: The routine for registration doesn't display a registered
status until after the setup is exited. Do Not be alarmed
if after entering your reg # it still says Unregistered the
first time. This will be corrected when you run the program
again, because the file was not there to read initially.
Select #2
- This is the color menu. You might spend a lot of time playing
with this option if you're really into tayloring your system.
Suggested colors are in () on the prompt lines. It is important
to enter a reply to all the questions or nothing will be recorded
and the color codes will NOT work! Remember to use all 4 digits
of the codes and keep them in UPPER CASE.
